Already hailed as a ground-breaking success, “Reggae’s Gone Country” consists of 13 tracks covered by the “who’s who” of reggae artists such as Beres Hammond, Freddie McGregor, Sanchez, and Tarrus Riley. At first try, one can sense a karaoke-ish sound, where vocals seem to have been placed over known country songs-turned reggae melodies. Yet at the second listen, I decided that… it actually works. Overall, the album encompasses a happy sound, one that may take some getting used to. At the end of the day, the album represents a sense of unity, where country and reggae work well together. You be the judge.

On another note, producer and saxophonist Dean Fraser compiled an all-star cast of contemporary musicians and singers to pay tribute to the legendary Gregory Isaacs.[1]We Remember Gregory Isaacs presents 16 of his most popular songs by artists such as Gyptian, Etana, and Tarrus Riley. Tracks include his classic hits like “Mr. Brown,” “Night Nurse,” “Soon Forward,” and my personal favorite, “Top Ten.” Gregory Isaacs’ legacy lives on with this collection, though of course no singer can ever do it as well as the Cool Ruler.
